Congratulations 2011 Nationals contenders

A big congratulations to all the WA players who contested this year's Nationals in Canberra over this last weekend. In particular – to the ATA-WA players who travelled the distance, and I'm not talking about just getting to Canberra, I'm talking about earning your way there and all the training and effort put in before flying to Canberra.  Our players come from the Mandurah (2), Falcon (3), Halls Head (2), Rockingham (1), Tom Price (2) and Port Hedland (2) clubs.

Hedland players contesting 2011 Nationals

Two players form the ATA Hedland club are gearing up to contest the 2011 Australian nationals being held in Canberra from 8-11 September.  Peter Wyn will be vying for national honours in the junior u14 black belts while Riley Caswell hopes to bring home medals in the u12 red belt juniors.  The ATA Hedland club is proud of their efforts in qualifying from the state selections held in Perth back in June 2011.  It will be the first time the Hedland club is represented at the Australian nationals.  Port Hedland is a mining town up in the resource rich north west Pilbara region of Western Australia that has a population of only 22,000.

The local newspaper, The Pilbara Echo recently spent time with the Hedland club interviewing both Peter and Riley and their instructor.  You can read their interview in this article news (click here).
