I just wanted to know what the specifics are for a creative poomsae.

I understand that it should not go for longer than 2 minutes – or is it 90 seconds?

What are the compulsory hand and foot techniques that MUST be used in a creative?

The World Taekwondo Federation is planning on adding creative Poomsae to next year's '5th World TKD Poomsae Championship'.

WTF has made this decision on May 2nd during their Presentation meeting (PT). WTF's Suk Jae Kang said "in attempt to make our poomsae more dynamic, we are adding creative Poomsae with standard Poomsae rules intact." And added, "you can look at it as a regular creative Poomsae."

The Championship will include all the standard forms along with the creative Poomsae.

Creative Poomsae will be enforced at next year's World TKD Poomsae Championships. It will not be included at this year's championship which is in December in Egypt due to lack of time they have in preparing the judges and referees.

…."creative Poomsae with standard Poomsae rules intact." … "regular creative Poomsae" …

Precisely, what are the standard poomsae rules for creative?

Perhaps it should be a compulsory part of the World Championship. It gives a more rounded perspective or a more "complete" competitor.

I think that's how gymnastics works to some extent. They aren't quite given a set routine, though they have to perform certain techniques within a routine. That can be like our standard patterns/poomsae.

Then they have their "creative" floor routine. Music accompanies the women performing. It's much more free flowing and shows off some "personality" for the individual. They still have set techniques – though I think they don't necessarily have to do them. If they want to score higher points, they still need to attempt numerous and varying level of difficulties of different techniques.

For our taekwondo creative poomsae, If they want to incorporate dance routines/moves/jiggling of body parts – then they should be allowed. Though they should be aware that it is not part of the score. Or maybe just a small part of the "visual spectacular" rather than the technical side of things.

This sounds quite encouraging because at this stage after 3 years of World Championships it seems that there's a decline in interest in poomsae. Everyone looks alike, it's difficult to differentiate between many of the players.

Creative poomsae would hopefuly make it more exciting as long as the fundamental aspect is still intact, which is a form of fighting by oneself.
