In case anyone is interested or about to purchase some books/DVD on the patterns we do, I'd like to clarify which ones we are conforming to.

The “style” that we should be following is that of the Kukkiwon.

Apparently, the Kukkiwon made some videos available decades ago (like 1970s or something) for people to learn, but the video quality wasn't that good and the content was very basic. What it did have though, was the awesome 70's sound effects for pretty much every striking/blocking action. Remember those martial arts films from that era???

In 2006, Kukkiwon released a 6 DVD set outlining basic moves and the patterns for each level.

I haven't seen it myself, yet, though I've heard it's quite detailed and provides closer views and angles that help the viewer to understand the technique better.

Those of you who have/find the WTF video that was released earlier this decade can still use it. Just keep in mind that there are little discrepancies here and there. I've also found this particular DVD-set (4-discs I think it was) to be handy for the korean terminology.

If you are aspiring to be a top level competitor at tournaments, please go to class and/or use the Kukkiwon released DVDs. All WTF-style sanctioned tournaments should be following the correct judging rules for poomsae that follow what Kukkiwon has released.

Once I find out where you can purchase this 6-disc set online, I'll post pictures and a link.

I think the DVDs are already out of date before it even hit the market. :)

Be it as it may, it is still the "best" non-personal (non human interactive) method to watch and observe the techniques and sequences in action; at this time.

Firstly let me say Hi from Cho's Taekwondo Queensland,

I am pleased that I was able to locate the information regarding the latest KUKKIWON DVD's on your forum.  These and the matching books appear to be the newly agreed upon standard that consolidates the requirements of WTF and KKW for international competition.  I am extremely surprised at how difficult these are to find as many of the online stores are still trying to sell the older versions of the KKW manual.  If you would like to preview the quality of these DVD I found that someone had upload the Korean version to youtube.  If you search under studentofmartialarts that brings up all the ones in Korean.  I beleive that these will be extremely valuable tools to have for anyone learning TKD.  The other useful teaching tool is the TKD-3D program.  I have found it an extremely powerful tool in my own development.  This matches the KKW to about 98% of the techniques by my estimates with the only varients being in some of the hand techniques used.

Yours in Taekwondo
