Silver??? !!!

Nice going with the costume, Richard! I guess if you travelled all the way there, you might as well dress up for the day too:)

I still don't believe the silver…you got footage of the gold performance?

Well, that sounds more like it!!! See, you DO have the footage of the winning gold performance! I heard the announcer say something along the lines of “yeah, Star Trek!” also :)

I don't believe you came 3rd in Traditional – what was the format like and which patterns did you have to duel with? and whom?

Well, poomsae is a subjective sport so it's opened to interpretation.  I sort of knew I wasn’t going to do too well when I narrowly beat the first player (3-2) and then in the 2nd round I lost (2-3) to a Melissa from MTC. Oh well, it doesn’t matter, I had fun with the creative  : )

I meant specifically, which patterns … Started with Taegeuk 4 for first round then so on and so on?

Plus the format?

Like, did two people go up together performing the same pattern/s? One after each other? Just the one pattern? 2, or even 3 per round?

It sounds interesting – maybe because it's just different and I like change.

Sorry, been away for a while.

The format follows WTF rules, in term of divisions. i.e 36+  (both gender) I had to do

1st round : 1 from (Tk8, Koryo, Gumgang, Taebek)
2nd, 3rd, 4th round : randomly picked from (Peongwon, Sipjin, Jitae, Chongkwon)

So depending on the number of players you can get to do up to 4 patterns, which is great, as it requires you to be consistent over all paterns, not just 1 or 2.

Yes, each round the pair perform the same pattern.

Yep .. I'm all for it !! Especially, the flattening of the divisions .. just 3 divisons .. 14-17, 17-35 and 35+. Same as WTF team ruling, so it requires you to know the patterns depending on your age group NOT by belt !! In order for poomsae to progres I think we have to move away from the belt system. It would also force the instructors to be up to date with their patterns if their students wants to compete. e.g if you have a 40yr old 1st dan wanting to compete then the person needs to learn up to chong-kwon.

I think, if we don't change the structure of the our competition, it would be very difficult for poomsae to progress. This is why you're seeing the same competitors competing at world selection every year !!!
