Got Drug Tested

2007 Poomsae Selections Drug TestOh yeah! After having that shower, I remembered I was randomly selected to be drug tested. It’s a bit much for me to write about it on the mobile phone, so I’ll go more in depth when I get back home to Perth.

Okay, so after the semi-final round (our first round where we performed Koryo) and we walked off – a gentleman introduced himself and uttered the words "Hi, my name is …. and I’m glad to inform you that you have been selected" and he paused for a while.

At that moment I was both totally confused and over-the-moon. I didn’t understand how we only just did our elimination round and I’ve been selected….I didn’t care – I was just happy to be selected!

Then after his momentary pause he continued, "to do a drug test."

Oh well, never experienced this so at some level I was still quite excited to try out something new and different.

They required a urine sample from me. They were testing 8 individuals all up that evening. Apparently because of the age category I was in, it was a likely target for drug offenders. Of the 7 people competing in my category of 19-30 years, they selected 2 from the male category, and I know they selected at least one of the females also.

The strange part was, they ACTUALLY had to PHYSICALLY view the individuals pee-ing into the cup. We couldn’t turn our backs or anything. From mid-chest through to about the knees had to be naked so they can view the process or urination and ensure we weren’t squeezing out of a "cheat bottle" or something. Needless to say, I heard stories of some other individuals getting stage-fright …. then they were forced to drink heaps of water to help them pass.

Then they sat me at a table and I thought they were going to get me to do all the tests. They had boxes and bottles and things set-up on the table already. Apparently they just get you to bottle it yourself to ensure the knowledge and security of the sample has been documented and recorded correctly.

I have 2 sample bottles. Bottle A they’re going to test, Bottle B they’re going to keep for up to 8 years in case there’s any new methods of testing that are developed.

No news is good news – if I don’t hear from them, I’m clean. If I DO hear from them, then I’ve probably tested positive.

Funny thing is, on the day itself – I was complaining of my head cold and a friend of mine asked if I wanted to take some medicine for it – and I refused because I said I could get drug tested.

The force is strong with me!
