We ended up with eight 1st Place trophy winners for the Kyorugi part of the Championships. In an effort for those first places, we followed it with fourteen 2nd Place Silver Medals and five 3rd Place Bronze Medals.
Halls Head bagged 3 Gold, 2 Silvers and 2 Bronze for their fighting entrants. Mandurah managed 2 Gold, 5 Silver and 1 Bronze. Coolbellup attained 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze. Rockingham came back with 1 Gold and 3 Silvers. Falcon took home 1 Silver. Padbury won 1 Silver. Congratulations to the Halls Head group and instructor for your great effort. Of course, the more entrants there are for your club, the more you have a chance of getting into the medal tally.
Quinn Fernando (Falcon) did very well considering he just returned home from holidays in Queensland at midnight last night and rushed to the venue for weigh-in and just lost the 1st fight 4-3 and then won the 2nd fight. I think 7 year old Quinn was hardly awake throughout the 2 fights. Shane Page came bouncing back from an illegal high kick from his opponent to level the score towards the end of the bout but a point scored close to the end ended Shane’s gallant and fighting come back.
Jed Calicdan (Mandurah), Matthew Kenyon (Mandurah), Aleisha Vincent (Morley) and John Harlowe (as court 1 supervisor) officiated as referees while Raffaele Direnzo (Morley) officiated as the court 2 supervisor and Referee Director at the competition.
I believe all place getters (and all black belt entrants) are qualified for the Nationals to be held in Sydney this year. If you are interested, please let your instructor know immediately and get your flights booked in. There is a special at the moment with QANTAS for a return flight for around $440 for that period. Not sure about other airlines, just that some of us will only fly QANTAS interstate. Please inform your instructor immediately so that we can begin to organise and book our accommodation also.
Congratulations to all the fighters who took part today, it takes some level of courage and skill to be able to enter in the first place. Take me for example, I haven’t entered a fight since 2006 States. In a way, you are all winners. Then, of course, for those who entered – there is a different level of appreciation when you earn a placing rather than be given it. Always remember, success is a feeling – if you feel successful, your are successful.
