WTF/Kukkiwon Taekwondo Poomsae Videos for our Members

For those who haven't noticed yet, we have made available some videos of the Poomsae / patterns that we learn in our classes. We learn the same poomsae that are instructed by Kukkiwon and World Taekwondo Federation.

In order to view them, you will need to be a current Australian Taekwondo Academy (Western Australia) member. You will also need to login with an account on this website. If you have not already done so, please register to create one. You will find links to register / login at the very bottom of this page, and also at the top in the forum. The videos are available in our "News/Coaching" section of the website; or you can click here to see the archive.

I encourage you to view these videos online as an aide to your current instruction in class. If, for anything, you can use it to "remember" the step-by-step moves for each WTF taekwondo poomsae. Then your technique and form can be refined in class by your instructor. Unless you are absolutely confident in your techniques and moves, please practise the movements without 100% power. Doing so will improve your muscles' ability to "remember" the action quicker, and you may inadvertedly be encouraging inefficent motion for your muscle memory.

For non-current ATA members, you can view the standard public viewable information available on our forum here.

This is an excellent learning aide to perfecting your poomsae skills. Use these videos as a supplement learning tool, the real learning and refinement is through normal training in class with your instructor.

I had a student once (more than 20 years ago) who would learn from the book, and did them incorrectly. He was the type of student who “knew it all” (you know one of those) and would not listen or to correct what he thought he had learned incorrectly from the book. Try arguing against a “book”. It is all in the interpretations of the “beholder” in this case it was the student interpreting himself what he thought the book was portraying. In the end it was always difficult to argue against the book because the book does not talk back, just as Bruce Lee said in his movie “Enter the Dragon”, boards don’t hit back … too true.

These videos are the same. While they are a great learning tool, it is the student who interprets what the actions are. Similar to the book, it is always difficult to argue with the video.

Learn from it by all means, but the instructor will always be on hand to check your moves and skill levels and correct where required, and you will be right. Check your moves and understanding with the video. Use the video as your reference guide.
